The first shot really set tone for this piece. After establishing cool shadows to offset the Toyota reds, we found ourselves replacing clear skies with clouds in order to add an edge to the athletes’ coverage. Recreating the effect on the archival media just involved dampening the digital feel and adding texture. Then it came down to reinforcing the practical flares with artificial ones to strengthen an overall warm-cool colour contrast.
