Behind The Scenes:
CARVANA UNREAL NEIGHBORHOOD
UNREAL BUILD
We partnered with our friends at Carvana on a fast-paced, high-impact project that pushed creative and technical boundaries. With a tight turnaround and a lean budget, we built an immersive, photoreal suburban environment — crafted entirely in Unreal Engine.
From the first block to the final render, everything was built from the ground up to support seamless animation and dynamic movement, all while hitting an ambitious deadline.
We started by building a flexible modular environment: rows of suburban homes — including a fully custom, hero house — modeled and textured from real-world references. Dynamic multilane roads, complete with roundabouts and merges, were generated using Geometry Script, which gave us powerful procedural control and sped up iteration.
REALISM IN THE DETAILS
To breathe life into the neighborhood, we layered in atmospheric IBL lighting, shifting overcast conditions, and lush SpeedTree vegetation. Nanite-powered grass gave the landscape density and depth, while custom road wear decals, blended sidewalks, and oversized surface decals helped ground the scene in realism.
DRIVING THE ACTION
Animating vehicle motion was a key part of the experience. Using curve-based materials and full vehicular rigging, we created smooth, natural car-follow sequences that made the environment feel alive and connected.
Despite the constraints, we delivered a rich, detailed world — fast. The final result was a polished, high-performance experience built entirely in Unreal, and a great collaboration with a team that trusted us to bring the vision to life.
