NEW YORK METS
CITY CONNECT
GAME PRESENTATION
The scope of this game presentation was to design and animate all of the content for the New York Mets City Connect games. This included hype videos, starting lineups, hero logo animations and all the familiar prompts you would see at a Mets game.
The catalyst was the uniform design. Instead of the familiar orange and blue we were presented with a graphic grey and purple accent color that represents the 7-line subway that runs to Citi Field.
INITIAL SKETCHES
We were in “sketchbook-mode” for the start of this game presentation and part of that was trying to figure out how to best incorporate Mr. Met who eventually made his way into a few of the hype videos. These sketches are a great way to quickly get a feel for how all of the elements will work together.
And our final building block was to develop a set of illustrations that support the City Connect system. These final icons were arranged to form a tile that could be repeated to make 2D and 3D backgrounds.
STYLE FRAMES
As we progressed through the project the style frames started to take shape as we were figuring out the right amount of balance between 2D/3D elements and the color balance between white, black, grey and purple.
WORKFLOW
We always rendered each prompt and hype video in a multi-screen preview format. This was the best way to get a sense of how all of the content is playing at Citi Field. It’s important to consider each screen in isolation, and as part of a broader layout, sometimes encompassing the entire venue.
In the end we delivered around 600 elements that made up this game presentation. This was a fun one to work on and it was great to finally see all of the animations play out in person. LETS GO METS!
